Doughnuts

From 1922:

One egg, 1 cupful of sugar, a pinch of salt, nutmeg to taste, 1 cupful of milk, 1 teaspoonful of carbonate of soda, and about three cupfuls of flour. Sift the flour, soda and salt, beat the eggs and sugar, add the nutmeg and mix all together with the milk, bake in a hot oven.
