GERMAN CATSUP
Two quarts of vinegar, one gallon tomatoes (cut fine), six tablespoons of salt, three tablespoons of black pepper, eight teaspoonfuls of yellow mustard, one tablespoonful of allspice, one tablespoonful of cinnamon, one tablespoonful of mace, one tablespoonful of cloves and one teacup of granulated sugar. Place all in kettle at once and boil three hours; then strain through a sieve, which will remove the skins and seeds.
