STEAK IN BATTER
From 1922:
Grill the steak for ten minutes, then cut it in strips about three inches long. Make a batter in the following way : One beaten egg, two tablespoons of flour, salt, and pepper to taste, ½ teaspoon of baking powder, ½ a teaspoon of dry mustard, sufficient milk to make a thick smooth batter. Dip the steak fingers until well covered on both sides. Fry a golden brown and serve with sliced tomatoes.
